Rocks is all about how our feelings can become overwhelming. They’re complicated, some being constructive and others intent on destruction. Our dreams, hopes, and desires often become tainted by regret, self-hate, and self-disgust. Some of us accomplish great things by doing horrible things, others hate ourselves too much to even start. Whether we look forward or backward, oftentimes it’s through the grimy film of disgust. The muck is caked on so thick we can’t see the truth. This can be paralyzing, and oftentimes it affects our actions in negative ways, reaffirming the lies we already believed. In my experience, the only one who can break through those things is God. He’s right there with us in it all and He knows exactly how we’re feeling. He wants to help, but He needs us to invite Him to do so first. Personally, when my emotions get the best of me, I need to stop and pray, “God, this emotion is bothering me. I cannot fight it on my own. Please fight it off for me.” The trick, for me, is to actually believe that God will fight for me. Then I repeat that process over and over; I’m still repeating it today. It works… I wouldn’t be sharing this if it didn’t.
